Marcus,
a 12 year-old boy, has a depressive
mother, a strange view of the world and is torn to pieces by the school
bullies every day because he wears the wrong trousers, the wrong shoes,
the wrong everything, has a wrong haircut and hears the wrong music. Luckily
for him there also is Will, a 36 year-old
single man, who doesn’t have to work, doesn’t want to have
children, doesn’t want to take any responsibilities, but sees the point
of single mothers. So he invents a 2 year-old son and joins a single
parent group. When Marcus meets Will, he sees at once that Will isn’t a single father. As they come home from a single parent-with-child-picnic Marcus’ mother has tried to commit suicide, so Marcus thinks he has to do something. What could be better than getting her married with Will? Will doesn’t like that idea, but at least he can help Marcus not to get bullied at school. He can tell him that Kurt Cobain isn’t a football player, but the lead singer of Nirvana, as Ellie, 16 years old and always in trouble for something bad she did at school. Ellie thinks Marcus hilarious, so she hangs out with him and they soon become friends and things get very turbulent…… A very nice book by the successful author Nick Hornby. Its really funny, you have to like the protagonists and so on blah, blah, there is really nothing more to say, read the book when you want to be entertained. Read it ! |
